History of the Wyględów neighborhood
Wyględów (Wyględy, Wyględowo-Kościesze) is a gentry village mentioned at the beginning of the 16th century, located in the area of modern street. Bełskiej (between Rakowcem, Wierzbnem and Zbarzem). By the end of the century it consisted of about 34 hectares of land.
By 1773, a blacksmith shop, a brewery, windmills, a tavern, and wooden residential buildings for local peasants had been built here. After the fall of the January Uprising, the village received voting rights. At that time it was located in the Warsaw district, Pruszków commune, Służewo parish, had about 48 hectares of land and 70 inhabitants lived here.
In the 80s of the XIX century. At its northern end, Fort M Mokotów was built, which was part of the inner ring of the Warsaw Fortress. After modernization at the turn of the 80s and 90s, it was intended for storage, and after 1909 it was partially demolished, but retained all the shelters and barracks (the southern side of modern Racławickiej street between Miłobędzką, Żwirki and Wigury streets). With the construction of the fort by the Russian authorities, intensive development of this area began.
In 1916, these territories were included in the administrative boundaries of Warsaw. With the annexation of suburban areas to the city and the establishment of its new boundaries, a new stage began in the development of the Fort Mokotów area, as well as other suburbs.
During the interwar period, the fort housed the broadcasting stations of the Polish Radio, and the territory of the village was divided into low-rise houses, mainly for one family. Then cottages were built, into which mainly pilots of the Polish army moved with their families.
After the war, the SBM Politekhnika residential complex joined the surviving buildings.

Sights of the Wyględów microdistrict
- Pole Mokotowskie Park
Wyględów borders the Pole Mokotowskie park, which is undoubtedly a huge advantage of this area.
Located between Warsaw's Mokotów district and the city center, the park is one of the largest in Warsaw. Contrary to its name, only a small part of the modern Pole Mokotowskie park is located in the Mokotów area. Most of the field (48.61 hectares, almost 71%) is located in the Ochota neighborhood and the city center. Part of the park area is called Jozef Piłsudski Park.
From 1818 until the Second World War, the 200-hectare area was largely occupied by the airfield and aircraft factory of the Warsaw University of Technology. Pole Mokotowskie housed the Warsaw Airport until 1934, and the Warsaw Hippodrome from 1884–1939. On May 17, 1935, the funeral of Józef Piłsudski took place at Pole Mokotowskie.
The current park was designed and developed in the 1970s and 1980s. In 2010, a two-kilometer educational trail named after Ryszard Kapuscinski was opened. In 2018, at the intersection of Niepodległości Ave. and st. Wawelska, 45 apple trees were planted in memory of outstanding Polish women.
The Polish National Library is located in the park. The park is also known for its bars and restaurants. A little further south is the Pole Mokotowskie metro station.

- Fort M (Mokotów)
Fort M (Mokotów) is a fort of the inner ring of the Warsaw Fortress, built in the 80s. XIX century, located on the street. Racławickiej, 99. Fort M (Mokotów) was built near the then village of Mokotów, directly on the south side of the current Racławickiej street. It was a typical fortification in the form of a regular pentagon with a dry moat. The ditches were protected by brick caponiers. After the fortress was modernized in 1889-1892, the fort was allocated for storage; therefore, additional storage shelters were built there.
After 1909, when the official liquidation of the fortress was approved, part of the fortifications was demolished, but all the shelters and barracks remained. During the interwar period, the fort housed Polish radio stations. Because of this, the fort was heavily bombed during the defense of the city in September 1939. In the third ten days of September, heavy battles were fought for it.
The fort, like other buildings of the Warsaw Fortress, never fulfilled its military function. In 1925, broadcasting stations of the Polish Radio were installed here.
After World War II, from 1961 to the end of the 1980s. XX century, the fort housed the Zarat factory, a manufacturer of television and radio broadcasting equipment.
The fort underwent an expensive reconstruction and became a major cultural and business center. There are offices, restaurants, conference rooms, agencies, exhibition halls and studios. The whole area is a very pleasant place to rest and relax.
Currently, the fort is surrounded by residential buildings along the streets: Balonowej, Olimpijskiej and Płatowcowej, and is used as a company headquarters.
